I didn’t expect that I would be getting my own room at the department, so that was a pleasant surprise! It’s amazing how a small thing such as a key can make you feel welcome. And someone had written my name on the door before I came, so that when I walked about looking for my supervisor’s room I suddenly saw my room! With my name on the door! Then, of course, the room was littered with other people’s things but in time I will get my own stuff there.
I also didn’t expect that I would be getting a new computer - a new MacBook is on its way to me…
